ARRIVING

Last mile directions:

As you drive up Atlantic Avenue, you'll turn left at the large white Catholic church, to Lobster Cove Road. From Lobster Cove Road, you'll make the next right onto Crest Avenue. This is where your GPS will likely drop off. Continue up Crest Avenue all the way up the steep hill. As it levels out, look for a set of mailboxes with "99, 101 + 103" in reflective letters on the side. The sign has a few names including “ANNALIESE” - our shared driveway is to the right of these mailboxes. You will pass on cabin at the top of the driveway and continue down to the bottom. Honey Haus is the cabin on the left. Please park on the grass next to the cabin. A few cars can fit there, and one car can fit next to the ramp that leads to the front porch of the cabin. Do not park on the wooden platform off of the driveway. That is our neighbor's parking spot. Thank you!

The Key

The key is pinned to a hook above the clothes line on a post on the back porch. When you pull into the driveway, the stairs to the kitchen door and the back porch are in front of you. There is a post at the top of the stairs, and the key post is directly beyond. The silver key opens the door next to you and the gold opens the front door. The lock must be turned to hold the deadbolt back while you also hold down the latch on the handle. It’s not overly complicated, but sometimes you need both hands :)

lights

There is a small white remote control that works the lights on either side of the couch and on the fireplace by pressing 1 and 2. I try to keep it on the side table so that I know where to reach for it. I have found it was easier than walking around to turn on/off so many lights. The brown torch-style uplights in the corners of rooms turn on by touching the finger pad on each lamp pole. There is a step switch that is lit up red on the floor near the small hallway outside of the bathroom, it controls the uplight above you. The large chandelier in the great room is controlled by the dimmer switch around the corner on the wall next to the refrigerator / shelf. The front exterior lights are attached to the switch by the front door. The back stairs exterior light switch is tucked behind the dish rack - I tend to leave it on all of the time for safety on the stairs. There is a light over the kitchen sink that has a switch by the coffee maker.

TV + ROKU

We have a Roku smart TV set up for your use with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu ready to go. You can also sign in and add channels that belong to your accounts while you stay if you like. There is a Roku speaker system attached and you should be able to select it from your smart phones if you’d like to play music as well.

SPEAKERS

There are 2 Klipsch google speakers if you’d like to use them - one in the the great room and one in the kitchen. You should be able to access them via bluetooth or casting through your music app (I use spotify with them), play both at the same time by selecting “all speakers” or individually.

Outdoor Shower

Exterior shower with hot and cold is available for you to use. Please do use it to rinse off sand from the beach where possible. Always good to keep sand out of the indoor bathtub!

Shopping + HOUSEHOLD GOODS

Please use whatever you need. There is coffee, tea and some dry / canned goods in the cabinets if you need them. Essentially our policy is "if you use it up, please replace it" - food items, toilet paper, tin foil, paper towels, etc. There is a Hannaford supermarket close by @ 180 Townsend Ave, as well as a Family Dollar in the plaza across from the market. Pinkham’s Gourmet Market offers some incredible seafood and curbside pickup as well - PINKHAM’S

FIREPLACE + WOOD

There is wood for the fireplace next to the front door on the big porch, and the wood pile is under a tarp next to the house. Please restock the porch wood ring as it is used. Do not ever burn cardboard. It could cause a chimney fire. Newspaper, kindling and logs only. Use one or two fire starter square per fire :)

LINENS + LAUNDRY

There are plenty of blankets for all of the beds, as well as throw blankets for chilly nights to cuddle up with on the couch. There is a washer/dryer tower in the room with the lofted bed. It is pretty self explanatory, but if you need details for any reason, the manual is located here: LG WashTower

There is a clothesline off of the back door of the cabin with a bag of clothes pins for your use hanging on the key post. Please hang any wet towels / beach towels or linens on the line to dry. Wet towels can damage wooden floors and furniture, so please aim to keep them outside to dry :)

BEACHES

You may pass by the Sprucewold Private Beach on walks or drives while you are in the area, but it is not available to all residents and can only be accessed by membership pass. We do not have a beach membership, so unless you are visiting with friends or family that possess a pass, please do not go to that beach. We love to beach at Barrett Park on Lobster Cove Road, right at the bottom of the hill, or a few miles away at Hendrick’s Head.

Please bring beach towels! Thank you!

IF YOU BLOW A FUSE

Here is a little walk through to show you where the fuse box is. It’s not overly complicated, but seeing this video is a bit easier than trying to explain the route ;)

TRASH + RECYCLING

There is no trash pickup in Sprucewold, but there is the most amazing BBH recycling and refuse disposal center nearby at 119 Country Club Rd, Boothbay, ME 04537. Their website is: http://www.boothbayrefuse.com

VERY IMPORTANT - Please be sure to leave no trash or recycling at Honey Haus upon departure. Plan to visit the disposal center before your final exit. Thank you!

RANDOM THINGS TO KNOW

The bathtub has a very slow drain. We’ve had it professionally snaked and we’ve had the septic checked for blockages and nothing has changed it - so now we accept it as an annoying quirk, and you don’t have to worry that it is anything you’ve done or have to fix :)

If it rains very hard, there tends to be a leak in the ceiling that drips in front of the tv (to the left of the fireplace), and one out on the porch as well. We have tried many times to patch the roof in both spots and so far nothing has made a difference, so try not to be too alarmed if you see it happen. We usually find a bucket or a towel and just wait it out. No need to panic, just the charms of a hundred year old log cabin :)
